August Updates

In our neck of the woods, saying that literally, we celebrate David Crockett’s birthday every year. His birthday is easy to remember because we have a son, David also born on Aug. 17th. Growing up, he enjoyed all things Davy Crockett too.

Located close to the David Crockett State Park in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., we join in their festivities. Annually, they host a frontier day event our family has attended for decades. The next generation, our grandkids love it too, as you can see from the photo above. Our fun-loving, Princess of the Wild Frontier tried on a coyote hat. Reenactors dressed in historic frontier clothes demonstrate how to cook over a fire, and make a host of interesting crafts. Vendors sell moccasins, jewelry, leather goods, and more. There’s plenty of activities the whole family will enjoy!

The first part of the month for me was spent hard and heavy at my computer wrapping up my middle-grade, historical fiction story, Pipestone Strong. It’s set in Minnesota in 1947. I’ve sent it to an editor. Then I’ll make another round of edits, before hunting a publisher or agent.
