No-Sew, Recycled Denim Gardening Apron

This no-sew project is ready to wear in minutes. It's easy to transform a pair of jeans into a durable work apron. The back portion of the jeans becomes the apron front. Denim jeans make ideal aprons for gardeners, carpenters, and woodworkers too. Kids love helping and wearing their own aprons too.

The only supplies needed to make this simple apron are denim jeans and sewing scissors

Directions:

1.     Select a pant size that fits comfortably at the waist.

2.     Cut both legs off the jeans above the crotch, several inches below the back pockets. (I save the pant legs and repurpose them as toss pillows.)

3.     Starting at the bottom of the jeans, cut away the side seams, stopping beneath the waist band. Turn and continue cutting away the front portion of the jeans, removing the zipper, front pockets, and all, leaving  the entire waistband intact. (See photo below.)

4.     Optional step is to embellish the pocket fronts with garden, nature themed appliques, such as butterflies, ladybugs, if desired.

It’s as simple as that. What remains is the back side of the jeans, now the apron front, and a long waistband that you’ll button in the back. Of course, you can take it further if you wish, add pretty to the practical, and add ruffled edges.

Fill the pockets with seed packets, gardening gloves, hand tools, and you’re ready to venture into the garden or flower beds. Carpenters and hobbyists will appreciate having pockets full of nails and screws at their fingertips during woodworking projects.
