Book & Author Feature - Protector by Anna Grace Miller

Where boys grow as tall as cactus in character and resolve

Protector - Book Review by Deborah S. Tukua.

Its 1870, in rugged and wild Wyoming territory. The Miller boys of Legacy Ranch grow into men in a hurry, especially when their Pa is away on a cattle drive and they're challenged with hard decisions to make and enemies to outsmart. Captivating western with action, adventure and plot twists. For ages 10 to 15.

Meet the Author, Anna Grace Miller

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to my fabulous friend, writing mentor, and this month’s featured author. Anna is a gifted writer in multiple Christian genres: biblical fiction, children’s fantasy and middle grade westerns.

Anna Grace Miller lives on a hobby farm with her husband, three children, and a boatload of animals. She writes westerns and allegorical fantasy, plays guitar, piano, and the mountain dulcimer, gardens, and schools her children at home.

Q&A with the Author

Q.        Your Grandfather asked where you got all those western words/terms from. So, where did you come up with them?

A.        Mostly from reading a passel of Louis L’amour’s westerns. I also did reference a couple of western websites with a great list of western terminologies.

Q.        What made you want to write this book?

A.        I have a seven-year-old son who loves reading, loves heroes, and loves the Lone Ranger. I wanted to give him something from his mother’s heart that would contain just as much adventure and excitement, all the while, teaching good morals and guiding him to godly manhood.

Q.        How long do you think this series will be?

A.        To be quite frank, I don’t know. I’m hoping to write, write, write, and keep the series going for a very long time. But it all depends on inspiration, time constraints, and my desire to keep writing other genres. Ideally, I’d love for this series to be no less than ten books.

Q.        Is this your favorite genre to write and read?

A.        Not necessarily. While Louis L’amour is my favorite author, it’s not because I love westerns. It’s simply because he writes so well and so broad. I suppose my favorite genre to read is action/adventure or fantasy. What’s my favorite genre to write? I actually feel a bit intimidated writing westerns because I’m no cowboy and I could never match up to the classic western novels by L’amour. But I love the challenge, and I do love the raw, real characters. I’m not quite sure if I know my favorite genre to write. Probably time-period pieces, whether we’re dating all the way back to the Old Testament or only back to the 1940’s.
